This Week in Kansas City: May 2 to 5

Kansas City weekends are always brimming with possibilities. Here are four events around town that you won’t want to miss.

First Thursdays in Crestwood  May 2
Start your weekend a bit early strolling First Thursdays at the Crestwood Shops. Stores are open until 7 p.m. and are offering light bites and wine, complemented by live music along the block. 

My Shadow Is Pink World Premiere  May 2, 3
Commissioned by the Folly Theater, this musical presentation is a choral work based on the children’s book of the same name. The world premiere performance will be accompanied by a 15-minute talkback and Q&A session with Ram Chettiar, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Children’s Mercy and UMKC School of Medicine. 

String Sprouts KC & The Symphony Concert  May 4
Free and open to the public, this concert celebrates budding musicians participating in the Sprouts free music education program for children ages 4 to 8 in underserved areas of Kansas City. The academic year culminates with Sprouts from all over the metro coming together to play with the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra at White Recital Hall. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., concert starts at noon.    

Derby: The After Party  May 4
As the Official Hotel Partner of Kansas City Museum’s The Derby Party 2024, Crossroads Hotel is hosting Derby: The After Party from 8 to 11:00 p.m. on May 4 at Percheron, the hotel’s rooftop bar named for the famed horses of the Pabst Brewery. Everyone is invited, no tickets required. Ten percent of the ‘Triple Crown’ mule cocktail menu purchases will benefit the Kansas City Museum. Be sure to enjoy these beverages at either XR or upstairs at Percheron. Space is limited! So, get there early, get a drink, and enjoy the Kansas City skyline.
