Impulse Purchase of the Week – 4/30

Local artist E.J. Wood had had it—officially. When she started hearing of “people who couldn’t find hand sanitizer, I knew I had the resources to start making some for my KC community and customers.”

Wood—a local candlemaker—decided to use “glycerin instead of aloe, so it will moisturize instead of drying hands out,” she says. “Let’s be honest, we are all cleaning our hands a lot more these days—and dry, itchy skin is a side effect.” ($15)

After educating herself on the best ways to wash your hands, she also developed a bespoke, citrus liquid hand soap. “The best way is handwashing for 20 seconds,” she says. “So I also made a liquid hand soap with only three ingredients—castile, glycerin, & coconut oil—that smells great and is gentle on your hands.” ($15)

Both have taken off. Good thing because Wood’s business—Untamed Supply—saw a downtick because of the COVID crisis. “There are a lot of artists that make our income being vendors at craft shows and other in-person events,” she says. “Those aren’t possible in the coming months as many have been canceled. We still need the support of our communities until some of those events are able to resume.”
