World AIDS Day is just around the corner on December 1st. The AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City just announced this year’s local theme is HIV/AIDS Activism Through Art. The organization is soliciting artist mural proposals from regional artists (and artist teams) in order to create a public large-scale and site-specific outdoor mural that will tell a story and spark conversations about HIV/AIDS in the Kansas City community.
“With this mural we want to highlight the importance of access to quality healthcare for all communities,” says Sandy Geduldig, co-chair of World AIDS Day 2020 with Chadwick Brooks. “The mural will speak to the many faces of HIV/AIDS while reminding everyone of the need to eliminate HIV stigma.”
Potential candidates will be asked to convey how HIV/AIDS has or continues to shape her/his/their attitudes, emotions, sensitivity and therefore their work around this subject matter—not unlike the late artist Keith Haring did with the Silence = Death campaign. Artists have the ability to produce works which visually encapsulate education, sorrow, suffering, and hope, the group mentions in an email.
ASF works to raise money and awareness for organizations that provide shelter, medical care, and emergency services for the more than 5,700 men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS and living in Kansas City.
Proposals must be received by September 15, 2020 to be considered. Click here for the Request For Proposal.
