When Craig Schwartz, DO, FACOS, FICS, RPVI, RVT, a triple board-certified vascular surgeon, decided to relocate to his wife’s hometown of Kansas City nearly 19 years ago, he saw that it was the ideal time to open one of the area’s very first dedicated vein treatment centers offering outpatient laser vein treatment. “Prior to this time, all varicose veins and vein disease had been treated with vein stripping,” says Dr. Schwartz. “It was a hospital procedure that was performed under general anesthesia and involved days, if not weeks, of downtime and recovery.”
Armed with his expertise in the vascular surgery field and additional training providing endovenous laser ablations right in the comfort and convenience of the office, he opened Vein Centers for Excellence of Kansas City, in Leawood. After years of working in hospital-based surgery, he truly loved working with lasers and minimally-invasive procedures and found that he had struck a chord with a loyal base of patients who were interested in what other laser treatments he could provide.
A Wide Variety of Procedure and Treatments
Over the first five years, he developed a sterling reputation and practice as Kansas City’s most experienced vein specialist, where he performed endovenous laser ablations and sclerotherapy treatments day in and day out. He’s now known as one of Kansas City’s original vein doctors. In fact, you might know him as “KC’s Vein Guy.”
Dr. Schwartz’s practice, Premier Vein & Body By Schwartz, evolved over the years to also include in-office laser liposuction, which was revolutionizing the field of surgical fat removal. It was a very natural progression for him, given his surgical background, keen eye for detail, and extensive experience and interest in laser energy. As the practice evolved, he added non-surgical body contouring procedures, such as SculpSure and CoolSculpting, and additional in-office lipo offerings.
This month, patients are encouraged to take advantage of the clinic’s upcoming anniversary special: 20% off all cosmetic treatments or procedures through the month of February (with the exception of insurance-based varicose vein treatment and monthly specials and promotions).
His State-of-the-Art Treatments Continue to Grow in Popularity
Always looking ahead and interested in developing cosmetic medicine, Dr. Schwartz has continually added revolutionary laser treatments to his arsenal over the years—everything from facial rejuvenation and underarm sweat treatments to laser tattoo removal and liposuction/fat transfer. His newest addition? “The FemiLift laser—which is used for feminine rejuvenation to alleviate some of the uncomfortable side effects of menopause that affect a woman’s personal life,” he says.
While vein treatment continues to keep him very busy, his in-office liposuction and fat removal procedures are just as in-demand. “Tattoo removal using the PicoSure laser has also been in demand—especially this time of year when patients are thinking ahead to their summer wardrobe with swimsuits and tank tops,” he says.
Meanwhile, Dr. Schwartz’s state-of-the-art fat-transfer procedure, using the BeautiFill laser system, has seen considerable success. “Think of it as a great ‘two-for-one’ treatment—where a patient loses fat from areas where they don’t want it and adds to areas where they do,” he says. As always, many of these procedures are non- or minimally invasive treatments, which ensures patients don’t have to worry about downtime and can quickly resume daily activities.
Looking Ahead to 2021
Now in his 18th year in business here in K.C. (and having completed more than 12,000 vein procedures), Dr. Schwartz’s practice continues to expand, thanks to an innovative new facility. The facility gives Dr. Schwartz and his team space for more treatment rooms and continued growth. Not only is it nearly double the size; it’s just minutes from his previous Leawood locale. “Our new location, just off I-435, offers a central location with easy access for patients from almost anywhere in the Kansas City metro region,” he says.
Reopening during the middle of a pandemic was a challenge, but the team persevered. As with many other businesses, Dr. Schwartz’s practice hasn’t been immune to pandemic challenges, but the grand reopening last June went off smoothly. Patients were happy to be back under his watchful eye. “They appreciated the care our office took—and continues to take—with Covid,” he says.
