As life slowly looks more like the days before Covid-19, Kansas City architect Sara Greenwood passionately believes we should ensure our next normal includes homes, offices, and shops that improve our quality of life. “Now more than ever, the benefit of investing in high quality, healthy buildings is critical to the community,” she says. “People want to feel safe returning to work, going to restaurants, and moving into a new home.”
Her passion and skill were recognized internationally last year when Greenwood was named one of only 25 LEED Fellows. This honor is for exceptional practitioners and leaders within the green building community, demonstrating mastery of the world’s most widely used green building rating system.
She has contributed to numerous KC area projects, including the new KCI Airport Terminal, the former Kansas City Star building, the Lenexa Civic Center, Two Light, 1900 Building, and the new Aquarium at Kansas City Zoo, to name a few.
“There are so many ways we can apply LEED concepts to improve not only how our city looks,” Greenwood says. “But also to make it more efficient, healthy, and sustainable. I think Kansas City is up to the challenge.”
