If whimsical describes you to a T, then these hand-painted tea towels from Painting Petunias are for you. Local creator Michelle Spigarelli came up with the artsy idea after being cooped up while nursing a broken foot in 2011. “I found myself homebound for a bit and searching for some way to pass the time,” she says. “I needed a gift for a friend which sparked the idea of painting on tea towels.”
The gift was so well-received, her hobby became her newest venture, Painting Petunias. With a variety of designs, it’s easy to find a gift for every occasion or something just for you. Many of the designs highlight Kansas City and the unique vibe of the city. (Starting at $13.)
Spigarelli views her tea towels as an alternative to a greeting card. Each towel is wrapped in cellophane and topped with a cute bow. “To me, the towel is my canvas,” says Spigarelli. “It’s art—on a towel.”
Painting Petunias tea towels can be found at Teal Lotus, Olive Tree, Annabelle’s, Under the Awning, Hallmark Camelot Court, Hallmark Country Club Plaza, By B Boutique and Genevieve’s.
