If you think back to the last few years of the Kansas City Chiefs playoff seasons, you might picture the selfies many Kansas Citians have taken next to the giant “Chiefs Kingdom” installation Union Station puts up each year.
On Friday, January 20, you’ll have your moment to get that photo, plus more photo-ops than any other playoff season, because nearly every inch of Union Station is decked out in red and gold Chiefs memorabilia. Visit the Mahomes Zone—a first-time feature—to see autographed jerseys and a life-size painting of Patrick Mahomes by local artist and fashion designer Kartel Stylez.
Stylez—who has created fashion designs for celebrities such as Travis Kelcie, Randi Mahomes, and Tech N9ne—painted the portrait in 2021 after the 2020 Chiefs Super Bowl win. Previously, the Mahomes painting has only been displayed on First Fridays at Union Station’s Graffiti Attic and Stylez’s private art studio. Stay tuned for our Q&A with the artist.
Currently, the Union Station Chiefs Fan Zone includes:
- Alpha-lit installation of “Chiefs Kingdom” letters in Grand Hall West
- 32-foot by 25-foot Chiefs Arrowhead banner in the Grand Plaza
- Pro Football Hall of Fame helmet with Home of the NFL Backdrop
- Mahomes Zone
- Large Arrowhead banners on the historic front of Union Station
- Red and Gold lighting inside and out
Union Station plans to add more opportunities with each successful win as the Chiefs play their way to the Super Bowl.
