As one of the largest and most established fiberglass pool installation companies in the Kansas City region, Probuilt Pool and Patio has been around since 2006. Fiberglass pool building skyrocketed in popularity in 2020, and with it came competition, but Probuilt was already an expert on what works, according to operations manager Paige Warner. Now, Probuilt is expanding into a new showroom location in Riverside, Missouri, called Probuilt Outdoor which will focus on the sale of hot tubs, swim spas, saunas, and outdoor kitchens in addition to fiberglass pools.
There are three main types of pool: standard concrete, fiberglass, and vinyl liner. “The concrete standard pool is probably the pool you grew up swimming in as a kid—neighborhood pools, community center pools, that sort of thing,” says Warner. “They’re great, but they have their downsides.” According to Warner, concrete is less suitable for a Missouri climate over time. Our harsh winters and summers cause shrinking and expansions over time, leading to cracks. Vinyl liners aren’t as suitable for kids or pets, as you’re constantly worrying about the liner ripping over time. Fiberglass pools are precast shells, basically. “They don’t scratch or fade, and they don’t crack as easily. The kids can get into it without any worry,” says Warner. “The dogs can get into it without any worry—it just lasts so much longer over time,” says Warner. “We’re pet people at Probuilt; we love dogs.”
While some newer fiberglass pool builders are doing anywhere from six to 20 pools a year, Probuilt installs roughly 100 in the Kansas City area alone. “We follow all the industry standards and, a lot of the time, I feel like we’re setting the industry standard,” says Warner. One setback fiberglass installers sometimes face during the building process is floating. “Floating only happens during the building process,” Warner says. “It cannot happen after the concrete is poured if installed and maintained correctly. And we’re such a big company that we have the means to fix it. Let’s say we have a flash food, and you don’t have concrete on your pool yet—we’re fixing that at no cost to you. It’s going to be like it never happened. Many other builders don’t have the means to take on an extra 20 thousand dollar charge, but we do. And we’re going to.”
The shape of fiberglass pools can’t be customized; they’re precast shells. But Probuilt’s selection offers as many brands as possible, so there are over 200 models to choose from. “There’s really something for everyone,” says Warner. The new retail showroom in Riverside gives customers an opportunity to see these choices firsthand, with miniature models of pool shapes and more. “It’s going to make the pool-buying process more hands-on and personal—instead of shopping online on our website, you can see samples of the fiberglass and color in person.” The retail Probuilt Outdoor showroom will also feature classic models of saunas and hot tubs along with many other outdoor items.
