While there are some holiday activities planned, this weekend in Kansas City isn’t anchored to any day too tightly. Kansas City will simply be Kansas City—which means there’ll be a lot of fun going on.
No Divide KC Gala
Nov. 15
The No Divide KC Gala is this Friday at 7 p.m. at the 21c Museum Hotel, and for $50 you get dinner, art, and entertainment, and an excuse to dress up. (The event is future themed, so get creative!) All the while, your money’s going to a cool organization.
No Divide KC is a nonprofit that teams with local artists and businesses to put on inclusive arts events around town. They run the Queer Narratives Festival, the Bicultural Poetry Program, and Art Spark.
Kansas City Women’s Chorus presents “Our Villain Era”
Nov. 15-16
What perfect timing.
Kansas City Women’s Chorus will take over The Gem Theater Friday and Saturday with “Our Villain Era,” a compilation of songs that “celebrates the strength and complexity of remarkable women everywhere.”
The concerts start at 7 p.m., and tickets start at $22 with discounts for people 18 and under.
Festival of Lights opening weekend
Nov. 15-16
If you’re on the Halloween comedown, hearing Christmas music on TV might make you squirm. Personally, we’re starting to give in—and little by little, it’s giving us the warm fuzzies.
Resist it or give in, that’s up to you, but the Festival of Lights at Powell Gardens opens this weekend. If a visual feast of color would bring you cheer, consider taking a stroll through the gardens.
The Barber of Seville
Nov. 15-17
You know how when people impersonate opera singers, they go, “Figaro, Figaro, Figaro”? This is that opera.
The Lyric Opera of Kansas City performs The Barber of Seville at the Kauffman Center this weekend. It’s a cultural touchpoint and one of four can’t-miss art events in November.
Make a night of it on Friday or Saturday at 7:30 p.m., or enjoy an operatic afternoon at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets start at $40.
