Holiday activities are officially dominating Kansas City’s calendar, but that doesn’t mean variety is going into hibernation. This weekend offers music, cider, historic tours, and a wildcard totally unrelated to the holidays.
The Soul of Santa Benefit Concert

The annual 2024 Soul of Santa Benefit Concert has been on our radar for months. On Friday at 7 p.m., jazz phenom Blair Bryant and a host of guests will hit the Gem Theater stage for “A Very Funky Christmas.”
Proceeds from the night benefit the Soul of Santa “Do Good” Foundation, which connects people with disabilities with resources that help them live fuller lives.
KC Mafia Film Festival

Here’s the wild card—and if you’re too full up on holiday activities this weekend, you’re in luck, since this festival actually starts on Thursday night.
The six-film KC Mafia Film Festival examines Kansas City’s dark Mafia history. It takes place over four days at the Glenwood Arts Theater in Overland Park, and it starts with a 7 p.m. showing of Brothers Against Brothers: The Civella-Spero War on Thursday.
Winter Wonderland Cider Fest

Saturday afternoon at 3, Cinder Block Brewery in North Kansas City is putting on an event for all ages. The Winter Wonderland Cider Fest will include kids’ activities, winter cocktails and six holiday ciders, and food by Saul’s Beef.
UMKC Choirs present “A Season for Giving”
Dec. 7
Four choirs from the University of Missouri-Kansas City will come together with guest soloists and ensembles at Visitation Parish Church for their holiday concert. Proceeds from the night benefit Harvesters Community Food Network, which helps people facing food insecurity.
Historic Westheight Holiday Homes Tour
Dec. 7-8
Westheight Manor is a neighborhood—and a nationally registered historic place—in Kansas City, Kansas. Its houses date back to the early 20th century and span 90 years of architectural styles. You can drive through any time, but the seven-home Historic Westheight Holiday Homes Tour gives you a look inside. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on Saturday and Sunday.
