If you haven’t seen—or, maybe more aptly, felt—Morgan Jay, you’re in for something special. He’s a singing stream of consciousness comedian who builds his act around audience participation, and he’s performing at The Midland Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday. Tickets start at $35.

One Bedroom Apartment opening reception
March 1

Saturday evening from 5 to 8, the West Bottoms art venue Gallery Bogart is holding the opening reception for One Bedroom Apartment, an art gallery with works ranging in price from $100 to $400. The artists, 17 in total, are from the Kansas City region and beyond. Shop or just admire.

In the Mardi Gras mood? It’s popping off in Power & Light this Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mardi Pardi is free to enter and features a pet parade, a king cake-eating contest, and decorations aplenty. Drink packages and a scoop from the crawfish boil are available for purchase

Various dates

There’s always music playing in Kansas City, but traditional instrumentalists have a big weekend coming up. Here’s a look.

Saturday night, the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra plays the Folly with guests Lucy and Bram Wijnands. At the same time, classical music powerhouse Park ICM will hold its annual “Stanislav & Friends” concert down the road at the Kauffman Center. Then, Project Trio—a genre-blending chamber music ensemble—takes over at the Kauffman for “Sonic Time Travel” on Sunday.

Native American Cultural Festival
March 2

Head to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday for the Native American Cultural Festival. It’s a free event that’ll have a presence in both museum buildings. Activities in the Nelson-Atkins Building will include Native American art spotlights, live cultural performances, and crafting; the Bloch Building will have Native American art activities and a learning station.
