After closing in March because of the pandemic, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is gearing up to reopen late next week. To welcome guests back on September 12th, they’ve kicked off a special membership drive to honor local heroes.
Each museum membership sold will allow the purchaser to gift an entire year of membership to anyone they choose. Through this campaign, The Nelson-Atkins hopes to recognize the essential work of so many frontline workers: teachers and healthcare professionals as well as restaurant and supermarket employees.
The free membership can be gifted to anyone who has had an impact on the purchaser’s life and includes unique invitations to events and virtual programming, free parking, and special discounts all year long. “So many unexpected heroes surround us every day during this unprecedented time,” says Julián Zugazagoitia, CEO & director of the Nelson-Atkins. “We want to recognize these heroes with the gift of art for an entire year. Perhaps this will help give solace in some small way to those who have worked so hard to contain the coronavirus.”
