Pioneering Spirit Endures
Once home to verdant land nurtured by entrepreneurial farmers and lush fields where prized horses roamed the gently rolling terrain, modern-day Mission Farms has a captivatingly unique story to tell.

Roy Cross, a prominent and respected Kansas City businessman, originally owned the property in the 1920s and 30s. He operated the 115-acre swath of land located far on the city's outskirts as a dairy farm and weekend country retreat for his family. Horse farms were common throughout the area, too, a welcome respite for folks looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for a slower paced experience on horseback, crisscrossing hills and trails.

In 1940, members of the Greater Kansas City's Chamber of Commerce American Royal committee formed the Saddle & Sirloin Club as a way to extend the city's important agrarian roots by unifying the business community with the prolific livestock industry. Three years later the burgeoning club purchased the land at 103rd and Mission from the Cross family to establish a ranch where, for decades, hundreds of equestrian enthusiasts enjoyed riding and recreational facilities in an unsurpassed setting.

Development in Johnson County decreased the Saddle & Sirloin Club's acreage until, in the 1990s, only 70 acres remained. The organization decided to support the community's planned growth and relocated to 325 acres near the intersection of 150 and Holmes Road in Missouri, where it continues to flourish.

Visionary Mission Farms developers purchased the land from the Saddle & Sirloin Club in 1999 and broke ground in 2006. Today the mixed-used development boasts estate homes, upscale condos and apartments, more than 40,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and more than 15,000 square feet of prime office space.
