The House, a little bar in a little house in Westwood, is decorated for the holidays until Dec. 28.
If you haven’t been to The House, here’s what’s there: a front yard, a front porch, a dining room, and a living room. Inside is very ‘70s. There’s a cozy couch, a chess board, and some old trivia cards in the living room, and a little bar separates the dining room from the kitchen. The front porch has seating for a few, and the front yard has a fire pit and several places to sit. Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop is the next door neighbor; in fact, it’s owned by the same person, and if you order Lulu’s online, they’ll walk it over.
That’s how it is year-round. Now, though, it’s fully decorated for the holidays, plays Christmas music inside, and has a menu of cheery cocktails. It’s not much—there’s no room for it. But it’s worth it.
It might not feel like your grandparents’ house—not exactly—but it feels like someone’s grandparents so graciously made their home a haven for the wistful sentimental during the holidays. You can’t miss the decorations, but you’ll also see year-round art and Thai signs in between them. It’s cozy, and it’s inspiring—because maybe you, with pretty lights and little touches of your own life, can make your house this cozy, too.
