Do you know a soul who’d complain about a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day? We don’t—but there are levels to this. You could rush it with a quick drugstore buy, or you could spend some time selecting each bonbon at one of the many local chocolatiers in Kansas City.

André’s Confiserie Suisse

André’s Confiserie Suisse is a Kansas City staple. In 1955, André Bollier and his wife, Elsbeth, moved to Kansas City from Switzerland with the dream of opening their own chocolate shop. They did just that in 1960, and his grandson René continues the tradition today with his wife, Nancy.

The André’s Valentine Collection includes a classic heart-shaped assortment, a chocolate almond-filled heart, and a collaboration with the fashion company Frances Valentine.

Annedore’s Fine Chocolates

Annedore’s has three Kansas locations—Shawnee, Overland Park, and Westwood Hills—and prides itself on its fine ingredients and painstaking preparation. They offer massive chocolate collections and an array of other confections, including barks, patties, and brittle.

The Valentine’s Day collection at Annedore’s Fine Chocolates includes heart-shaped chocolates and chocolate-covered strawberries of all kinds.

Bliss Chocolatier

Bliss Chocolatier in Blue Springs serves dazzling, hand-painted creations. Like a chocolatier later in this list, it’s owned by a mother-daughter combo, and the sweets are made from scratch. Its Valentine’s Day collection ranges from simple four-bonbon boxes to The Heartbreaker, a chocolate heart with confections inside.

Chip’s Chocolate Factory

Crown Center shoppers know the temptation well. Chip’s Chocolate Factory has been hand making its trademark Kansas City Fudge since 1983. In addition, nearly all of its chocolate confections—think chocolate truffles, turtles, and nut clusters—are made on site using imported European chocolate.

Christopher Elbow Chocolates

Christopher Elbow fell in love with his craft in the pastry department at Delmonico’s Steakhouse, and today he’s synonymous with chocolate in Kansas City. His sleek chocolate shop in the Crossroads serves little pops of color that explode with flavor.

Christopher Elbow’s Valentine’s Day offerings include crème brûlée bonbons, Champagne truffles, and other creative delights.

Panache Chocolatier

The best way to learn about Panache Chocolatier is to visit its shop in Park Place. Under new ownership, the longtime Country Club Plaza resident moved to Leawood in 2019, and the International Chocolate Salon has given it the highest distinction—Grand Master—for six straight years. It is definitely fancy, and its latest collection is called Love Notes.

Sweet Kiss Brigadeiro

Take a dip in a new culture at Sweet Kiss Brigadeiro. This local, family-owned shop in the Country Club Plaza specializes in brigadeiros, which are versatile, chocolatey Brazilian desserts. Flavors include lemon, Brazilian coffee, crunchy strawberry, and a whole lot more. Owners Regina Antunes and Jessica Harris, mother and daughter, use a family recipe.
