Garozzo’s has a dish that gives you tunnel vision.
Say you’re sitting with your date at the downtown location. You’re at the table closest to the wine. The bar’s to your right, the Joes DiMaggio and Montana look proud on the wall to your left. You hear convivial dinner conversations, the banter at the bar. It’s pleasant in here. Then you take a bite, and your vision suddenly shrinks to a pinhead—and you’re doing a little dance. The pinhead is just wide enough to check with your tablemate before closing your eyes. “Are you tasting this?”
The Spiedini di Pollo Samantha is a plate of breaded chicken, fettuccini noodles, artichoke hearts, and a whole lot of creamy Alfredo sauce. It’s easy to say it’s all in the Alfredo sauce; it could make a computer mouse taste good. But that bite, the one that shrank your vision, was the perfect combination of noodles, chicken, and sauce. This isn’t some cheesy trick. This is one of the best dishes you’ll find anywhere.
The Spiedini di Pollo Samantha is $25 at Garozzo‘s in downtown Kansas City and Overland Park. Make a reservation, if you can, and get there early if you can’t.
Extra tip: Make sure you save some pre-entrée bread to dip in your Alfredo sauce. And ask for amogio sauce—a spiced olive oil/lemon juice combo—if you’re feeling especially saucy.
