The baristas prepare the Spiced Orange Mocha at PT’s Coffee, at least after you order it, as quick as a flicker. They put chocolate syrup and spiced orange syrup in a cup, add espresso with a machine that looks like it was there before the building, then make something pretty in the foam on top with steamed milk.
If it tastes like it’s worth a longer wait, that’s because there was a bit more to it. For the spiced orange syrup, the baristas zested the oranges and added the cinnamon and cloves. For the chocolate, they melted the chocolate, then added the water, sugar, and vanilla extract.
Anywhere else, orange and chocolate might be an odd pairing, but in your coffee cup, the orange is a delightful add—a glowing core of sweetness in the rich darkness. The sweetness is in every sip, and it never outstays its welcome. If you’re feeling down, it might add a little light to your day, too.
Grab the Spiced Orange Mocha at PT’s Coffee in the Crossroads and Power & Light through fall.
