Tucked away at 63rd Street and Oak is an unassuming venue that serves some of the best birds to be had in Kansas City. Chef Charles d’Ablaing’s Brookside Poultry Company features, among other things, chickens and ducks lovingly marinated and cooked on a rotisserie. Try the Barham Farm duck (from Kearney, MO), roasted until the meat is moist and tender and the skin is caramelized with wonderfully chewy bits around the edges. The fried green tomatoes with creamed spinach and tomato chutney, although rich, are a wonderful textural contrast. Open Tuesday through Saturday. For menu and hours, visit bkspoultryco.com.
