National Ice Cream Day is this Sunday, kids. Why settle for just one, decadent scoop of ice cream if you can have two—or four?
“It’s just the right amount,” says Best Regards Bakery, Café and Creamery owner and flavor engineer Robert Duensing, who packs his new line of ice cream, gelato, and sorbet flavors in half-pint containers—which, if you’re keeping score, equals two generous scoops.
Duensing insists on making everything at his family-owned bakery from scratch, including his ice-cream base. He pays more for real vanilla and refuses to use corn syrup, gums, artificial flavors or preservatives. Several flavors also feature scratch bakery inclusions, including vanilla pound cake or gooey brownie bits. “You know why some people are confused that my French vanilla ice cream isn’t white?” he asks. “Because real vanilla isn’t white, and I use real vanilla.”
Best Regards is celebrating National Ice Cream Day by offering four half-pints (Crinkle & Cream, Nut Buster, Classic Chocolate and Mint Chocolate) packed in an insulated reusable tote, plus four decorated signature sugar cookies for $29.99 ($36.99 value.) Orders must be made online or through a free app (Best Regards-Chow Now) for curbside pickup. Look for the “IN Kansas City” package under Gelato & Ice Cream! (Offer good through July 22.)
