‘Tis the season to add some festive events to your social roster. Need some ideas on what to do this weekend? We’ve got your back.
Luminary Night: Light in the Night – November 12
Bring your friends and family to light the night! Enjoy a magical luminary walk through the north side of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Warm up around a fire pit to roast marshmallows and enjoy performances by the Nelson-Atkins Teen Council before you depart for a celestial viewing organized by the Astronomical Society of Kansas City Stargazing Society. S’mores kits, hot cocoa, wine, beer, and soda will be available for purchase. The first 50 museum members to show their card at the member table will enjoy one complimentary s’mores kit! Tickets are not required to attend this free outdoor event, but if you’re a non-member and would like to visit the featured exhibitions, galleries, or the Día de Los Muertos altar in Kirkwood Hall, please reserve your timed ticket in advance.
Crescendo – November 12
Whether you’re a lover of jazz, opera, theater, dance, or classical music, you will find it all at the silver anniversary of Crescendo at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Ranked as one of Kansas City’s best events, the festivities will include a delightful dinner, followed by a fast-paced, one-hour, collage-style performance where one ensemble flows into the next—from a jazz combo to a violin soloist; from an elegant dancer to a soaring orchestra—the Crescendo concert is a tour de force of UMKC Conservatory talent that rivals any you have seen.
