We’ve been eyeing this weekend for a while, Kansas City. It has a lot of things going on that we’ve never done. Many are collaborative, and we’re psyched to try them. Let’s get into it.

Keep Knitting: A Community Event (Weekend 1 of 3)
April 11
On Friday, a project starts. Head to the Englewood Arts Center in Independence to join Keep Knitting, a three-Friday event that’ll result in one “large-scale knitted textile installation.” It’s arm knitting, so no needles required. Entry (and instruction) are free.

Hypothesis: a Theatre Lab presents Exit 16 (Weekend 1 of 2)
April 11-13
You’ve surely gone to a play—or a movie, or even read a book—and thought, “Gosh, if they just did this differently.” Well, Hypothesis: a Theatre Lab is giving you the chance to have your voice heard.
From April 10 to April 14, head to the Arts Asylum downtown to watch Exit 16, a play set in a diner caught in a time loop. Then participate in a 30-minute feedback session after the show. Come April 17-20, Exit 16 will return to the stage revised with your feedback as a guide.
Tickets are $30. Buy them here.

Kansas City Jazz Alive 18th & Vine Walking Tour
April 12
Saturday morning, join a jazz expert on a walking tour of Kansas City’s jazz district. The Kansas City Jazz Alive 18th & Vine Walking Tour starts on 18th Street and swings past several landmarks in Kansas City’s jazz scene. The tour is led by jazz historian Chuck Haddix, the host of Fish Fry on KCUR and the director of the UMKC Marr Sound Archives.
After the tour, you can get into the American Jazz Museum free with your ticket.
Extra: If you’re into Kansas City’s music history, consider grabbing a ticket to the documentary Sounds of the City, premiering the night before at the Uptown Theater and streaming on Prime Video after that.

Northland Ethnic Festival
April 12
The free-to-enter Northland Ethnic Festival—like the Ethnic Enrichment Fest, put on by the same commission—puts the metro’s cultural vibrancy on full display at Metropolitan Community College’s Maple Woods Campus. Over 25 nations were represented at last year’s festival, bringing authentic food, on-stage performances, and exhibits; you can expect more of the same on Saturday.

Grown-Up Easter Egg Hunt
April 12
Easter celebrations really start popping up next week, but the big kids should check out the Grown-Up Easter Egg Hunt at KC Wine Co. on Saturday. It’s an adults-only event where you can feel like a kid again. In addition to an Easter egg hunt, there’ll be live music, farm games (including adult tricycles, giant Plinko, and roller slides), and a “boozy prize” for everyone.
Tickets are about $25. Food and drinks are available at an additional price.
