This Weekend in Kansas City: December 27-29

This weekend is wonderfully positioned. The cherry-red glow of Christmas still lingers, the sparkle of New Year’s is just over the horizon, and for those who celebrate, Hanukkah is at full flame. Get out this weekend, Kansas City, and enjoy it.

Shrek Rave at recordBar
Dec. 27

Maybe you just had to act square at a family Christmas. Need a way to get your weird out? Shrek Rave is stopping at recordBar in the Crossroads on Friday. It’s what it sounds like: a Shrek-themed EDM show where the crowd parties dressed like Shrek and his friends.

Go get weird and combine Kansas City and Duloc—two perfect places. Shine your shoes, wipe your face.

Hanukkah Menu at Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen
Dec. 27-29

With Christmas in the rearview, Hanukkah is just getting started. A rare thing!

Until Dec. 29, you can get a three-course Hanukkah dinner for $55 at Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen. You’ll start with Bubbe’s Matzoh Ball Soup, then enjoy an eight-hour braised brisket with potato latke and carrot tzimmes. For dessert, choose between babka bread pudding and cinnamon crème anglaise.

Pop-Tarts Tasting and Watch Party
Dec. 28

The Pop-Tarts Bowl is such a sweet combination of ironic and authentic enthusiasm that shouldn’t be questioned—only celebrated. Two top-ranked college football teams—this year, Iowa State and Miami—play for the right to eat the giant Pop-Tart mascot. This year, the game’s MVP gets to choose the flavor.

Oak & Steel, a craft-brew watering hole in the Crossroads, is hosting a Pop-Tarts Bowl watch party on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 6. They’ll be crowning a winner, too—of a 12-Pop-Tart tournament to determine the best flavor.

Bring water, good shoes, and anything that helps you absorb the scene—be it a sketchbook, a camera, or just your eyes.
