July is just over the horizon, but June is throwing a heck of a last hurrah.
In addition to the last Sunset Music Fest on Thursday and the final nights of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival through Sunday, here’s what you can get into this weekend in Kansas City.
Country Stampede Music Festival
June 27-29
Head out to Bonner Springs for the Country Stampede Music Festival, a three-day country music festival on the Azura Amphitheater grounds. Chris Janson headlines on Thursday night, Riley Green on Friday, and John Pardi on Saturday. All told, 15 national acts will play the main stage—and 15 local acts will play the private Platinum Club Stage.
Single-day tickets start at $79, and you can even get a camping ticket and stay all three days.
Invicta FC 55: Bernardo vs. Rubin
June 28
For an intense night out at a historic venue, grab tickets to Invicta FC 55 at Memorial Hall in KCK. Invicta Fighting Championships, the nation’s top women-only mixed martial league, will host a seven-fight card on Saturday night. In the main event, Talita Bernardo will defend her Bantamweight World Championship against Olga Rubin.
Caffeine & Chrome
June 29
If you didn’t get a chance to take Dad out for Father’s Day, you’ll get another chance on Saturday. Head to Gateway Classic Cars at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Bring the ride and the dog. You’ll be rewarded with classic cars and, while they last, donuts and coffee. For free.
Bo Jackson Royals Hall of Fame Induction
June 29
Saturday afternoon at 3:10, the Royals host the first place Cleveland Guardians. It’s a big game in a big series, but you could argue the main attraction is 55 minutes prior. That’s when Bo Jackson, the legendary dual-sport athlete played for five-plus seasons at Kauffman, will enter the Royals Hall of Fame.
