Cruzar la Cara de la Luna
March 7-9

If you’re hesitant to go to the opera, reconsider—this is something truly unique. The Lyric Opera of Kansas City is hosting a three-day run of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, a mariachi-opera fusion performed in both English and Spanish.

Created by composer José “Pepe” Martinez and writer Leonard Foglia, it’s the story of Laurentino, a man at the end of life reflecting on his choices. The show will have English and Spanish subtitles displayed above the stage.

Beer-iversaries

Now, for the drinks. It’s a big weekend for beers, both new and old. Two breweries are celebrating anniversaries, and another is bringing a beloved brew back to life.

Seven Years of Beers at Strange Days Brewing Co.
March 7-9

Seven Years of Beers actually starts on Wednesday, March 5, and runs through the weekend. Strange Days’ beer list marches ever forward, replacing old brews with new, but they’ll be bringing back old favorites every day of the celebration. One constant: the meat-heavy food truck, Burn Theory.

Friday marks the return of DDH Channel Surfing, a citrusy hazy IPA. Saturday brings back Strata Reaction (a hazy American pale ale) and a strawberry-jelly version of Suckers (a PB&J hard seltzer), and it introduces Starbrite, a dry hopped pilsner. Sunday’s a chill day to kick back and try everything that returned (and debuted) during the celebration.

River Bluff Brewing Third Anniversary
March 7-8

A six-minute walk away, River Bluff Brewing at River Market is celebrating its third anniversary on Friday and Saturday. Friday, there’ll be a Yahtzee tournament. $5 cash buy-in, various gift cards on the line. Signups start at 6 p.m., and the games start at 7.

The next day, they’ll be tapping a new cold IPA (with a portion of the proceeds going to the Pink Boots Society of KC) and partnering with the Kansas City Cauldron for a Sporting Kansas City watch party.

The Sound of Music Singalong and Edelweiss Release at KC Bier Co
March 7-8

KC Bier Co, the German-style brewery, is re-releasing their Edelweiss beer, an amber-bock wheat ale. To celebrate, they’re hosting “sing-along showings” of The Sound of Music (“Edelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me,” Captain Georg von Trapp sings) Friday through Sunday at 6 p.m. Bring your cheer, and if you want, dress in German gear.

Kansas City Fashion Week’s Kick-off Cocktail Party

It’s $58 with fees, and it’s at Two Light Luxury Apartments.
