Patrick Madden of Madden-McFarland Interiors pulled double duty while he was on assignment at the High Point Market in North Carolina recently. 1) He checked out some killer design trends for 2020 and 2) he did some reconnaissance for our magazine as well. He puts the roving in roving reporter.
In case you’re not familiar, the High Point Market is mammoth—in fact, it’s the biggest furniture market in the world with over 2,000 exhibitors from all over the world spread throughout 180 different buildings. (Let’s hope Madden wore sensible shoes. I mean, he’s got around 10 million square feet to cover—give or take.)
Here’s what he’s seeing from two different well-known designers:
“Behold Thom’s Filicia’s latest offerings. He celebrated his tenth anniversary with Vanguard Furniture this Fall. His vision, creativity and friendship is one of my favorite aspects of Market. You will see mixed finishes, colors and clean tailoring. He added in dramatic colors with graphite paints walls and splashes of rose on the upholstery pieces and artwork. Trending away from the grays, he used rich golds and wood tones with more of a burnt umber. His choice of fabrics is always well appointed. Mixing graphic patterns and rich solids.”
“Lillian August, meanwhile, never disappoints! Her impeccable rooms are always full of color, beautiful smart fabrics and dramatic lighting. Always one of the prettiest showrooms in High Point. I have a feeling that traditional settings are making a comeback, as shown in some of her vignettes.”
