Sure signs of fall? Fuzzy sweaters. Pumpkin spice everything. Harvest time. And Sherwin Williams unveils their Color of the Year. What shade will reign supreme in 2021? Turns out, it’s both understated and bold at the same time—and perfectly suited to interiors as it is to exteriors.
Their choice? Urbane Bronze SW 7048. It’s a warm hug of a color with rich, inviting undertones. The color makes complete sense given that people are spending more and more time at home. Sherwin Williams describes the versatile shade as a “new neutral”—a calming color for a serene space.
Local designers we talked to say it’s a solid choice. “It’s nice to see something strong with some personality,” says Madden-McFarland’s Patrick Madden, who recently used the color himself. “This gives you a sense of solitude and comfort. With all of the grays that we have seen in the past several years, this is a nice color that will work with the rest of the home, other upholstered pieces.”
HGTV Design Star winner Jennifer Bertrand agrees. “After we have Xanax’d the world into gray and white what a better way to jump back into rich lushness,” she says. “I adore that Urbane Bronze is a dark, muddy neutral that can play as a beautiful backdrop to whatever world you want to create. This color is a chameleon and will do wonders for a space.”
Coincidentally, Sara Noble of Sara Noble Designs featured the color in an exterior trim. “It’s a unique dark color that is close to black with some warmth in it,” she says. “I think it could transition to bold spaces inside as well.”
