Three Hardworking Mudrooms

The hardest-working room in any house for the next few weeks will be the mudroom. If you’re lucky enough to have a room dedicated to the transformation between muddy boots, snowy mittens, and all the mess in-between, you know. If you don’t, here’s some inspiration so you can be ready next season.

Family Planning

Just one step into the mudroom of this Parkville home, and the organization is obvious. Interior designer Jessica Gordon with Noble Designs specified lockers so that each member of the family has his or her own cubby. Drawers are deep enough to hold multiple sports shoes, and lockers are wide enough to hold sports bags for this athletic family. The blue-hued custom cabinetry takes it up a notch.

Multi-Tasking

Interior designer Julie Ransopher Baker renovated the mudroom in her home to serve multiple purposes. The large, deep Native Trails sink works for laundry tasks, dog baths, and Baker’s flower arranging skills. The Osborne & Little wallpaper “Best in Show” adds a touch of whimsy to the practical space.

Designated Design

Jesse and Matt Hufft, the co-founders of Hufft, the architectural design and fabrication firm, designed the mudroom in their own home to grow and change with their family. Clever storage makes the room stylish and efficient. Custom cabinetry doors rise up instead of opening left or right, and open storage holds their kids’ necessities no matter what their age. Floor-to-ceiling white tile is low-maintenance and makes the small space feel larger.
