Bluhawk, the ever-expanding retail and entertainment hub in Overland Park, is open to all this holiday season.
Fresh off the grand opening of AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk, the shopping center will greet guests with holiday experiences, gifting opportunities galore, and spaces to treat yourself when you need it.
We talked to Bluhawk spokesperson Becky Cornell about what’s in store.
Holiday Experiences
Keep the evening of Nov. 29 free. Bluhawk’s Holiday Tree Lighting might be the coziest in the metro.
It all starts at 5:30 on the corner of 159th and Antioch. There will be fire pits and free treats—think hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, and warm donuts—and adults will get a free holiday mug (while supplies last). A DJ will lay down a holly jolly soundtrack, and Santa and real-live reindeer will join the people of Bluhawk for the occasion.
Around 7 p.m., the Bluhawk Christmas tree’s thousands of lights will come aglow.
“Turning the lights on with us is a family friendly way to kick off the holidays,” says Cornell. “After that, it’s up to you: How do you want to spend your holidays?”
For the active bunch, the ice rink at AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk is loaded with public skate sessions, and on Dec. 14 and 21 from 2 to 4 p.m., you can meet Santa there. Elsewhere in the sports park, the family entertainment center offers an exhilarating day with the family, with laser tag, an innovative roll-glider ride, bowling, and more.
For many, a major component of the holidays is dinner with loved ones, and Bluhawk has a host of options. Casual spots include Red Door Woodfired Grill or Cactus Grill; Of Course Kitchen & Company is a fine-dining option; and a hidden gem, Cornell says, is Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, where you grill your meat over a shared charcoal pit.
Holiday Gifting
Holiday experiences like that just feel good, and so does whittling down your shopping list. Bluhawk can help you check a lot of boxes.
If jewelry is on your list, Scott’s Diamond Designs is a trusted Overland Park original with items at every price point.
If there’s someone outdoorsy in your life, pop over to Sierra—the only one in the region. “They have a ton of outdoor gifts, from outdoor games to active wear and camping supplies,” says Cornell.
For the hard-to-buy-for people we all know and love, Bluhawk also has a Bath & Body Works, a TJ Maxx, and an Ulta Beauty. The Plaid Elephant is a lovely local boutique for women’s jewelry, clothing, and accessories.
And for your furry friends’ stockings, there’s a Three Dog Bakery.
Treat Yourself
Then, of course, there are the options just for you. Treats you wouldn’t normally buy yourself but, after all the shopping and activity of the holiday season, you deserve.
There’s a MassageLuxe to keep you loose for those walks from store to store. There’s Posh Nails, a great local salon that pampers you when you need it. For a little workout therapy, there’s OHM Fitness and an all-women’s option, Blush Boot Camp.
“Come and buy something for yourself,” says Cornell. “You’re going into the new year, so you can start a fitness program, invest in your wellness, or just get some much-needed R&R.”
Spend Your Holidays at Bluhawk
After years of gathering the goods, Bluhawk is entering the holidays with its wings wide open.
“Spend your holidays with us. Come to our Holiday Tree Lighting and stay for dinner, for ice skating, for shopping, or for some self-care,” says Cornell.
And in true Bluhawk fashion, it will keep on growing.
“This holiday, we’re celebrating a catalyst year for Bluhawk, but we’re also looking ahead to a really exciting 2025.”
