We asked our team a simple question: “What are you obsessed with in Kansas City right now?” The answers were widespread—and we hope your KC bucket list will be better for it.
If you haven’t been to Seven Swans Crêperie in Westside, you’re missing out on a true gem! This spot isn’t just famous for its perfectly crafted crêpes; it’s also a treasure trove of incredible baked goods that could easily steal the spotlight. The pastry selection changes daily, from a spiced cake with fresh apple compote to the wildflower honey and sea salt cookie I enjoyed last week. Each treat feels like a labor of love, creating a cozy, enchanting experience that goes far beyond crêpes alone.
P.S., it gets quite busy on weekends, so be ready for a 30-45 minute wait—but trust me, it’s worth it!
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with going to the Overland Park Farmers Market. It is such an upgrade from going to the grocery store and a great way to support small businesses and shake up your regular meals at home with better ingredients.
When I moved to Kansas City a little over three years ago, I worked from home, so it took me a minute to put down roots. It turned out I just had to put my feet in the sand.
For at least two years, I’ve been playing sand at Volleyball Beach in Martin City. It’s a massive field of sand with 14 courts during warmer months and eight courts during dome season, when a big white bubble protects us from the cold. There’s a little bar in front with a food menu full of guilty pleasures. (Buy the Beach Balls and bring Lactaid.)
It’s like a big extended family. My team started as a group of my wife’s coworkers, but a few iterations later, it’s just a big group of friends. Other players show up after work and sub for teams until they turn the lights off. I am a bit of a baby and get antsy after two games, but nothing’s keeping me there after league play is done. I love Volleyball Beach.
This favorite of mine is starting to become more of a tradition. My family loves getting brunch at Third Street Social on a Sunday morning (typically followed by pedicures at Bloom Nails & Spa). Our brunch favorite is the house-made doughnuts to start, and the Classic Breakfast is always my main. It comes with three eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes, and a house-made cheddar biscuit. We never skip a side of the chorizo verde gravy either. It’s starting to become a monthly thing for us. (Only once a month—so far!)
Our Favorite Things, located in Burlington Creek right outside Parkville, is a fun and vibrant shopping destination. With a wide range of products from gifts and home decor to accessories and clothing, everyone is sure to find something they can’t live without. The store is beautifully decorated for the holidays, and they have even more items to buy on their website. I recently purchased the Spa Holiday Petite Shimmer candle, which comes in a beautiful purple vessel and smells of chamomile and lavender.
