Similar to jumbo shrimp, “quarantine fashion” has become quite the oxymoron. When most people are struggling to get out of their pajamas, Cassie Taylor, a local photographer/content curator, wanted to find a way to give back to local clothing boutiques hit hard by the stay-at-home order.
Turns out Taylor was feeling restless and needed to get her creative juices flowing—so she did what any sensible bored, self-quarantined fashionista would do. She contacted a group of stylish movers and shakers to put their fashion sense to use for the benefit of some unique clothing stores. “People are tired of wearing the same old sweatpants,” says Taylor. “Their quarantine style needs a boost, and they’re looking for ways to support local businesses.” So on Friday night, the KC community is invited to “Stay Home and Stay Fabulous” as local social-media influencers take to makeshift runways in their homes to show off new looks delivered from local boutiques. (This we have to see!)
Because of social-distancing guidelines, Friday’s KC Quarantine Virtual Fashion Show will be produced online using Zoom technology. And, score!—the event promises to increase awareness and generate business for local boutiques.
Participating boutiques include:
- Addie Rose, Leawood
- Anchora Bella, Lee’s Summit
- CoCo, Brookside
- Ensemble, Overland Park
- Frankie and Jules, Overland Park
- Kate, Kansas City
- Lady Bye, Brookside
- Scoobie, Prairie Village
- Scout and Molly’s, Leawood
The event is free for participants, but you need to sign up for the event here. And double score!—participating boutiques will also be donating ten percent of post-show proceeds to Harvesters Community Food Network.
