Loose Park
Historically known for being a site for the Battle of Westport during the Civil War, Loose Park is best known today as one of Kansas City’s most popular and beautiful outdoor destinations. The Rose Garden is a must-see, with over 3,000 roses in 130 varieties, tucked away on 75 acres just up the hill from the Country Club Plaza.

Ernie Miller Park & Nature Center
Trails stay open from dawn to dusk at this Olathe nature center. Hike solo and take in a view of the lake or bring the whole family for a day of educational programs and wildlife activities. But leave the dog at home, because while pets are prohibited, all other entry is free.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Park
Nestled between Brush Creek and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd is a family park filled with fun. After a donation from the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, this park created an inclusive and accessible playground space for children of all abilities. The end result is explosively colorful, including jumping pods, a climbing area, a merry-go-round, and swings.

Swope Park Off-Leash Dog Park
Need a date with your dog? This off-leash dog park accommodates pups of all sizes, dividing the park’s five acres into separate parks for those over and under 30 pounds. The best news—both areas have water fountains available for people, too!

Macken Park
Athletes tend to know what they like—unless they haven’t tried Macken Park. Do you like having three baseball fields, six tennis courts, four racquetball courts, a soccer field, and an asphalt running trail with a 60-acre park view? Who doesn’t?

Hyde Park Pilgrim Labyrinth & Butterfly Garden
Being outdoors can be the ultimate self-care, and nothing does it better than a butterfly garden. Free your mind with a contemplative stroll through the labyrinth and gardens, where each plant and flower were specially selected to support the declining Monarch butterfly population.
