It’s almost time for tidings and good cheer—and ice skating! Good thing The Ice at Park Place—Leawood’s only outdoor ice rink—is now open through February 28, 2021. Always a crowd favorite, the rink is the perfect place to enjoy a magical, safe outdoor winter wonderland.
New Events This Year
This year Park Place is introducing some new holiday traditions to the festivities. The Ice at Park Place will be hosting a stellar 40th anniversary Miracle on Ice event with skater Ken Morrow. In addition, The Ice will continue to host its ever-so-popular Princess and Sweetheart Skates, but they’ll also be recognizing local heroes, too, during a special Superhero Skate. It’s an opportunity to recognize frontline workers who have given so much to keep our community safe.
If you’re up for a little competition, lace up those skates for pond hockey tournaments and broom ball. For folks feeling a little adventurous, The Ice at Park Place will also hold human curling events. It’s a spin—pun intended—on the popular Olympic sport. Or stop by to watch figure skaters from all over the metro dazzle guests with their skills and prowess on the ice.
A Family-Friendly Venue Transforms
Park Place elves have been busy over the last month transforming the district into a winter wonderland—a magical place for families and friends to eat, shop, and gather safely outdoors. There’s a restaurant to please each and every palate with true dessert destinations such as a delicious new ice cream shop and a gourmet chocolate shop located just a hop, skip, and triple axel from each other.
Looking to host a private holiday get-together or wing-ding? Guests are encouraged to reserve the rink for exclusive parties. From family gatherings and office parties to school-related events and fundraisers, it’s an ideal outdoor venue. (Hockey players and figure skaters are available for an additional fee to help show you the ropes, if need be.)
Holi-Day Trip, Anyone?
If you’re looking to break away from the humdrum of being cooped up, Park Place is a delightful Saturday getaway. You can make it a beautiful holiday-themed day trip with the family, with Dickens carolers on hand and Santa standing by for festive photos. Choose a Saturday afternoon that fits your schedule starting with their Shop Small Saturday on November 28th.
To start off the day you’ll need an energizing lunch. Depending on your taste, we’d suggest a handcrafted burger from BurgerFi or a visit to RA Sushi. While you’re noshing, keep an eye out for Santa traipsing around the grounds and greeting visitors. (Hint: There’s a great selfie backdrop next to the ice with a beautiful lighted-tree background and bench for the family.)
‘Tis the Season For Shopping
Once you’re properly nourished, it’s time to shop ‘til you drop. Need to spruce up your house for the upcoming holidays? Plan some extra time to visit Park Place’s local shops to prepare your own home for the holidays. Pink Antlers Studio never disappoints with an explosion of holiday décor and gifts that you’ll fall in love with. Add to that with a beautiful fresh bouquet from Flowers by Emily, and the boutiques will really bring the glitter and glam to your gift list or personal style. Not to mention, Ice Cream Bae, Panache Chocolatier, and Verdigris will be sure to have several special holiday flavors and concoctions.
Listen for the delightful harmonies of strolling Dickens carolers as you check off your gift list. For some fabulous people-watching, sit rink-side next to the fire pits and enjoy the skaters. Warm up with a hot chocolate—or something stronger if you’re up for it. Need a respite from the cold? Escape with the family to a private room at Breakout KC.
For dinner, there’s the delectable Pig & Finch or 801 Chophouse and then it’s time to skate with Santa (Dec. 5th) under the lights at night. Plus, with so many illuminated backdrops, there’s no better place to snag that perfect Instagram family portrait. You seriously can’t go wrong at Park Place.
